Ramesses Vazquez-Viana, a young survivor of last year’s devastating plane crash in Northeast Philadelphia, was honored in a powerful and emotional moment Friday night at the Xfinity Mobile Arena.

Now 10 years old, Ramesses took center court before the Philadelphia 76ers faced the Minnesota Timberwolves, where he was given the special opportunity to ring the ceremonial bell. As he did, the arena erupted in cheers and applause, recognizing his incredible strength and resilience.

The moment carried deep meaning. In January 2025, when he was just 9 years old, Ramesses was riding in a car with his father, Steven Dreuitt, 37, and his father’s girlfriend, Dominique Goods-Burke, 34, when a medical jet crashed into the busy intersection of Roosevelt Boulevard and Cottman Avenue.

The crash was catastrophic. All six people aboard the aircraft were killed. Ramesses was the only survivor inside the vehicle, while dozens of others in the surrounding area were injured. The impact also caused widespread destruction, damaging hundreds of homes and businesses.

Ramesses suffered severe, life-threatening injuries. He endured burns over approximately 90% of his body, along with multiple internal and external injuries. His recovery required months of hospitalization, extensive medical treatment, and extraordinary physical and emotional strength.

More than a year later, his journey continues to inspire not only the city of Philadelphia but people far beyond. His appearance at the Sixers game was more than a ceremonial gesture—it was a symbol of survival, courage, and hope.

From unimaginable tragedy to a moment of triumph in front of thousands, Ramesses’ story stands as a powerful reminder of resilience and the human spirit’s ability to overcome even the most devastating circumstances.
