A British woman was fatally shot by her father last year in a tragic domestic incident that followed a family argument earlier in the day, according to court testimony.

Lucy Harrison, 23, was killed on Jan. 10, 2025, while visiting her father, Kris Harrison, at his home in Prosper, Texas, a suburb of Dallas. Harrison had moved to the United States as a child and was spending the holidays with family at the time of the incident.

Local police in Prosper initially investigated the shooting as a possible manslaughter case. However, no criminal charges were filed after a Collin County grand jury declined to indict. The circumstances surrounding Lucy Harrison’s death are now being examined in a coroner’s court in Cheshire, England.

During proceedings this week, Lucy’s boyfriend, Sam Littler, testified about a heated disagreement between Lucy and her father earlier that day. The discussion included political topics and broader social issues, though authorities have not identified politics as a motivating factor in the shooting.

Littler said he and Lucy had traveled to Texas together for the holidays. He also noted that Lucy and her father had a strained relationship at times, citing disagreements over alcohol use and firearm ownership. According to his testimony, Lucy became upset during a conversation that morning and went upstairs following the argument.

Later that day, shortly before Lucy and Littler were scheduled to leave for the airport to return to the United Kingdom, Kris Harrison reportedly took his daughter into his bedroom. Littler testified that he heard a loud bang moments later, followed by Harrison calling out to his wife for help.

“I ran into the room and saw Lucy on the floor near the bathroom,” Littler told the court, describing the scene as chaotic and distressing.

Kris Harrison did not attend the hearing but submitted a written statement. In it, he said he had relapsed after a period of sobriety and consumed nearly an entire bottle of wine that day. He stated that he and his daughter had been watching a television segment about gun violence when he asked if she wanted to see his firearm.

According to Harrison’s account, he retrieved his Glock 9mm handgun in his bedroom to show Lucy when it accidentally discharged.

“As I lifted the gun, I suddenly heard a loud bang,” Harrison wrote. “I did not immediately understand what had happened. Lucy fell to the floor.”

Authorities in both Texas and the United Kingdom have emphasized that the case remains under review, with no criminal conviction resulting from the incident in the United States.

In a statement, Lucy Harrison’s family remembered her as a vibrant young woman with a deep capacity for love.

“She was passionate, expressive, and unafraid of difficult conversations,” the family said. “She was thriving in her life, and while that brings some comfort, we are devastated by the loss of our beautiful Lucy.”
