Original ‘Hamilton’ Cast Reunion at the Tonys Disappoints Fans: Here’s Why
The original cast of Hamilton reunited on the Tony Awards stage for a special 10th-anniversary performance. The medley featured the musical’s biggest hits but left many fans unsatisfied.
The performance, held during the 78th Annual Tony Awards at New York’s Radio City Music Hall, brought together key original cast members, including Lin-Manuel Miranda, Leslie Odom Jr., Daveed Diggs, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Phillipa Soo, and Jonathan Groff. Together, they performed snippets of fan-favorite songs like "Non-Stop," "My Shot," "The Schuyler Sisters," "Guns and Ships," "You'll Be Back," "Yorktown," "The Room Where It Happens," and "History Has Its Eyes on You."
Despite the emotional moment, many viewers took to social media to express their disappointment. The main criticisms included:
Too short: Fans felt the performance was rushed and wanted more.
Anthony Ramos missing: The actor, who played John Laurens and Philip Hamilton in the original production, didn’t have a standout moment, leaving some fans upset.
Jonathan Groff didn’t sing: The actor, famous for his role as King George III, was part of the number but didn’t get a solo.
Hamilton premiered on Broadway in 2015 and became a cultural phenomenon, winning 11 Tony Awards (including Best Musical), a Grammy, an Olivier Award, and the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Its original cast recording was the first in history to be certified diamond in the U.S.
Despite the nostalgia, the 2025 Tony Awards performance left some fans wanting more.
