Karoline Leavitt and her family are getting ready to welcome a new addition.

The 28-year-old White House press secretary is expecting her second child with husband Nicholas Riccio, 60. Leavitt shared the news on Instagram, posting photos of herself in a white sweater dress cradling her baby bump in front of the Christmas tree.

“The greatest Christmas gift we could ever ask for — a baby girl coming in May 2026,” she wrote. “My husband and I are thrilled to grow our family and can’t wait to watch our son become a big brother. My heart is overflowing with gratitude to God for the blessing of motherhood, which I truly believe is the closest thing to Heaven on Earth.”

The announcement comes just weeks after the mother of Leavitt’s nephew and godson, Bruna Caroline Ferreira, was detained by ICE in November.

Leavitt and Riccio are already parents to 18-month-old son Niko. A senior White House official told Fox News that Leavitt plans to continue serving as press secretary during her pregnancy — making her the first pregnant press secretary in U.S. history. PEOPLE has reached out to the White House for comment.

The couple became engaged during Christmas 2023 and welcomed their son, Nicholas Robert “Niko” Riccio, on July 10, 2024. Shortly after giving birth, Leavitt returned to work on Donald Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign, saying an assassination attempt on Trump in July motivated her decision to skip maternity leave.

In November, Ferreira — who shares an 11-year-old son with Leavitt’s brother Michael — was arrested by ICE in Massachusetts while picking up her son from school. Ferreira later criticized Leavitt during an appearance on CNN, questioning how the press secretary could support her detainment as a fellow mother. Leavitt has not publicly commented, and a source previously told PEOPLE the two have not spoken in years.

Ferreira, who came to the U.S. from Brazil as a child, was later released from ICE custody after an immigration judge ordered her release.
