Kyler Murray, J.J. McCarthy and Jaxson Dart all saw action during Saturday's preseason matchup between the Minnesota Vikings and the New York Giants, offering fans an early glimpse of their quarterback rotations ahead of the new NFL season.

Murray was given the starting assignment for Minnesota after recently being named the Vikings' No. 1 quarterback by head coach Kevin O'Connell. Although his appearance was brief, he completed 2 of 3 passes for 10 yards, leading the Vikings on their opening drive before the team settled for a field goal to take an early 3-0 lead.

McCarthy entered immediately after Murray and handled quarterback duties for nearly the remainder of the first half. The former first-round pick completed 4 of 7 passes for 34 yards without a touchdown or interception. Despite moving the offense at times, Minnesota failed to score again while he was under center, with each of his three possessions ending in punts.

On the opposite sideline, rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart started for New York and made the most of his limited opportunities. He completed 3 of 4 passes for 26 yards, including a 15-yard touchdown pass to rookie wide receiver Malachi Fields, giving the Giants a 7-3 advantage.

Dart's outing nearly ended prematurely after he absorbed a heavy hit from Vikings safety Jay Ward late in the first quarter. The quarterback was evaluated for a possible concussion after leaving the field and spending time in the medical tent. However, he returned shortly afterward and capped his performance with the touchdown throw before exiting the game.

Following the departure of both starting quarterbacks, veteran Carson Wentz took over for Minnesota in the second half, officially ending McCarthy's afternoon.

McCarthy entered training camp hoping to secure the Vikings' starting job after being selected 10th overall in the 2024 NFL Draft. Injuries delayed the start of his NFL career, and after an inconsistent 2025 campaign that included 11 touchdown passes and 12 interceptions, he will now begin the season as the backup behind Murray while continuing his development.

The Vikings will continue their preseason schedule next weekend against the Baltimore Ravens, while the Giants will face the Miami Dolphins in their second exhibition game.
