A United Airlines flight traveling from Newark, New Jersey, to Palma de Mallorca, Spain, was forced to return to its departure airport Saturday night after a potential security concern triggered precautionary procedures onboard.

According to flight-tracking data, the aircraft had been in the air for more than four hours and was en route across the Atlantic when it unexpectedly reversed course and headed back to Newark. The flight was originally scheduled to arrive in Spain after nearly eight hours of travel.

United Airlines later confirmed that the aircraft returned to Newark to address a possible security issue. While the airline did not disclose specific details, reports from passengers and air traffic communications suggest the concern may have involved a Bluetooth-enabled device with a suspicious name that triggered security protocols.

Several passengers shared accounts on social media, saying flight attendants asked travelers to disable Bluetooth devices during the flight while crew members investigated the situation.
