While Jones’ departure denied Aspinall the blockbuster showdown he had been pursuing, he now has the perfect opportunity to make a statement by defeating the same opponent Jones beat to claim the title.

Gane lasted just over two minutes in his fight against Jones — a stark reminder of how quickly things can end at heavyweight. For comparison, five of Aspinall’s victories have come in even less time than it took Jones to finish Gane.

In the co-main event, the vacant women’s strawweight title will be decided when Mackenzie Dern faces Virna Jandiroba. The two previously met in 2020, with Dern taking a decision win. Both fighters have evolved considerably since then, making this rematch nearly a toss-up among oddsmakers.

Elsewhere on the card, Umar Nurmagomedov — cousin of UFC Hall of Famer Khabib Nurmagomedov — looks to rebound from his title loss to Merab Dvalishvili earlier this year as he faces rising contender Mario Bautista. According to UFC CEO Dana White, the winner of this bout could earn the next title shot, following Dvalishvili’s upcoming fight with Petr Yan in December.
