BRASÍLIA — Brazil's Superior Electoral Court (TSE) President, Justice Kassio Nunes Marques, cast his ballot early Sunday morning in Brasília, expressing confidence that the country's municipal elections would proceed safely and without major disruptions.

Before voting, Nunes Marques observed the printing of the "zerésima" report, an official document that verifies electronic voting machines contain no pre-recorded votes before polling begins. Shortly after polls opened at 8 a.m., he completed his vote.

Although born in Teresina, Piauí, where his electoral registration is maintained, the TSE president requested a temporary voting transfer to cast his ballot in the federal capital this year.

Speaking briefly with reporters after voting, Nunes Marques praised the Electoral Justice system's preparations.

"The Electoral Justice is fully prepared to ensure one of the smoothest and most successful elections. Any minor incidents recorded across the country were resolved before Election Day," he said.

He added that authorities began the day confident the voting process would unfold normally across Brazil.

"We started this day with the certainty that the elections will proceed in an orderly and peaceful manner," he stated.

At the polling station in Brasília's Lago Sul district, election workers reminded voters about the ban on bringing cell phones into the voting booth. Before entering, Nunes Marques confirmed that he was not carrying a mobile device.

Other Supreme Court Justices Also Vote

Several members of Brazil's Supreme Federal Court (STF) also voted during the morning.

Justice Cármen Lúcia cast her ballot in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, while Justice Dias Toffoli voted in Brasília and encouraged citizens to participate in what he described as "the celebration of democracy."

"Election Day is a moment for every voter to reflect carefully, make a free choice, and confidently exercise that right, knowing each vote will be securely counted through Brazil's electronic voting system," Toffoli said.

Justice André Mendonça voted later in the morning after waiting in line at his polling station in Brasília, while Justice Gilmar Mendes cast his ballot in Diamantino, Mato Grosso.

The voting process continued throughout the country under the supervision of Brazil's Electoral Justice system.
