Katie Zacharia, President Donald Trump’s newly appointed White House press secretary, made her debut at the briefing room podium on Tuesday with a concise appearance that lasted less than 15 minutes.
During her first official briefing, Zacharia spent most of the session delivering prepared remarks focused on the administration’s accomplishments before taking questions from three reporters representing Breitbart, Fox News, and the Daily Mail.
One of the key announcements from the briefing was that the administration has requested the resignation of Kimberly Guilfoyle, the U.S. ambassador to Greece, following allegations of misconduct.
Throughout her remarks, Zacharia emphasized that her primary mission as press secretary is to communicate and reinforce President Trump’s agenda. A former conservative commentator and communications adviser, she said her role is to ensure Americans understand what she described as the administration’s achievements.
"My goal is to communicate the president’s accomplishments as effectively as possible," Zacharia said, adding that Trump remains "his own best spokesperson" and will continue leading the administration’s public messaging.
When asked whether the United States had halted intelligence sharing with Ukraine, Zacharia declined to provide an immediate answer, saying she would follow up after gathering additional information.
Taking over the role just weeks before the midterm elections, Zacharia said President Trump will continue an aggressive campaign schedule with upcoming appearances in Kentucky, Georgia, and Florida, aimed at energizing Republican voters ahead of Election Day.
She also praised the enthusiasm of Trump supporters, describing recent campaign rallies as drawing large and energetic crowds while highlighting what she characterized as growing momentum for the president and Republican candidates nationwide.
Addressing changes in the media landscape, Zacharia expressed support for expanding access to nontraditional media outlets in the White House briefing room, continuing an initiative introduced by her predecessor, Karoline Leavitt.
The new press secretary also spoke briefly about balancing public service with family life, explaining that her husband and four children will relocate to the Washington, D.C., area as she assumes her new responsibilities.
Later Tuesday, reporters questioned Zacharia about her legal background after she previously stated that she practiced law in China. She responded that she worked in international transactional law after graduating from law school and relocating overseas with her husband. A White House official said she worked in China on international legal matters before returning to the United States, though officials did not directly address questions regarding her U.S. bar admission.
Trump announced Zacharia’s appointment last week after she served as a senior communications adviser for Trump Media & Technology Group. In recent interviews, she has repeatedly stressed that her focus as press secretary is not on herself, but on effectively communicating the president’s message and policy priorities to the American public.
