The Mystery Behind Kim Mulkey’s Bold March Madness Game-Day Looks

LSU women’s basketball head coach Kim Mulkey has turned her March Madness appearances into a spectacle — not just on the court, but on the sidelines as well. Known for her bold, flashy, and eye-catching outfits, Mulkey consistently draws attention with a brand-new look for each game. But there’s one surprising detail: even she isn’t exactly sure what happens to those outfits after the tournament.

During the regular season, Mulkey often reuses pieces, mixing and matching them into new combinations — especially her signature bell-bottom pants. However, when it comes to the biggest stage in college basketball, she takes things to another level, rarely repeating a look during March Madness.

Each sequined, embroidered, or vividly patterned blazer is unique — worn once and then seemingly disappears. On Friday, for example, she sported a purple polka-dot blazer featuring a sparkling floral tiger design on the back, reinforcing her reputation for standout style.

Still, Mulkey admits she doesn’t track where those outfits go.

“They’re in my closet. I guess at the end of the season someone comes and gets them, maybe to auction them off — I don’t know,” she said. “They just leave them at my house, and I’m like, ‘Oh, I’m supposed to wear this tonight?’ — and I wear it. I really don’t know.”

While the mystery continues off the court, the focus on it remains intense. LSU advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament after a convincing win over Jacksonville and now awaits the winner between Villanova and Texas Tech.

That means fans aren’t just watching for the game — they’re also eagerly waiting to see what Kim Mulkey will wear next.

Last year, she turned heads with a shimmering sky-blue blazer paired with white pants in the second round — another reminder that her presence goes far beyond basketball.

No pressure, Kim Mulkey — but all eyes will be on you.
