Tatiana Schlossberg, an environmental journalist and author who was also the granddaughter of former President John F. Kennedy, has died at the age of 35, her family announced Tuesday.
“Our beautiful Tatiana passed away this morning. She will always be in our hearts,” the family said in a statement shared through the JFK Library Foundation’s Instagram account.
Born and raised in New York City, Schlossberg was the daughter of Caroline Kennedy and the granddaughter of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and President Kennedy.
She built a distinguished career covering climate and environmental issues, earning a bachelor’s degree in history from Yale University and a master’s degree in American history from the University of Oxford.
In 2024, Schlossberg was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia. She wrote openly about her experience in a deeply personal essay published in The New Yorker in November 2025.
“My parents and my brother and sister, too, have been raising my children and sitting in my various hospital rooms almost every day for the last year and a half,” she wrote.
Doctors first detected signs of her illness shortly after she gave birth to her second child, a daughter, when abnormal white blood cell levels were discovered. Schlossberg and her husband, George Moran — whom she married in 2017 — also share a son.
She recalled being told she might have “a year, maybe” to live, and her first thought was of her children, fearing they might grow up without memories of their mother.
Schlossberg also shared that she had previously suffered a life-threatening postpartum hemorrhage.
Her family history has long been marked by tragedy. Caroline Kennedy was just shy of her sixth birthday when her father, President John F. Kennedy, was assassinated in Dallas in 1963.
