Clemson, S.C. — The Syracuse Orange earned a historic victory on Saturday, defeating the Clemson Tigers 34-21 at Memorial Stadium, securing their first-ever win in Death Valley and improving to 3-10 all time against Clemson.
Syracuse set the tone early, scoring on its opening drive and surprising the Tigers with a bold, successful onside kick. Under head coach Fran Brown, the team showed maturity and held firm in key moments, avoiding the late-game collapses that had cost them in previous matchups against Clemson.
Despite the landmark win, it came at a steep price: starting quarterback Steve Angeli, the nation’s leading passer, left the game with a serious left foot injury and was later seen on crutches. Backup Rickie Collins Jr. stepped in and immediately threw a touchdown to extend the Orange’s lead.
Syracuse’s offense thrived with balance, mixing an efficient rushing attack with quick passes that neutralized Clemson’s defensive front. The Orange piled up nearly 100 rushing yards in the first quarter alone, effectively quieting the Death Valley crowd.
The defense also delivered, forcing critical turnovers, including a fourth-quarter interception by Davien Kerr that essentially sealed the game.
For Clemson, the loss was a major setback, dropping the Tigers to 0-2 in ACC play and increasing the pressure on head coach Dabo Swinney and quarterback Cade Klubnik, despite his solid passing numbers.
Syracuse now turns its focus to Duke, riding the momentum of a signature victory that strengthens Brown’s vision of building the program into a national contender.
