Several celebrities are expected to attend Game 3 of the WNBA Finals between the Phoenix Mercury and Las Vegas Aces at the Mortgage Matchup Center on Wednesday, Oct. 8.
With the Mercury trailing 2–0 in the series, the team is hoping to stay alive with a crucial win at home.
Here’s a look at some of the VIPs spotted at the game by The Arizona Republic:
Mark Davis – Owner of the Las Vegas Raiders and Aces
Wearing his signature all-white suit and distinctive reddish bowl haircut, Mark Davis was seen courtside near the Aces’ bench before tip-off. The Finals stage is a familiar setting for Davis and his Aces, who are chasing their third championship in four years. A Game 3 victory would put them just one win away from another WNBA title.
Dan Majerle and Bridget Pettis – Phoenix Suns and Mercury Legends
The arena’s Jumbotron highlighted two local sports icons during the second quarter: “Thunder Dan” Majerle and Bridget Pettis, both members of their teams’ Ring of Honor.
Majerle, drafted by the Suns in 1988, became a fan favorite and key player during the legendary 1992–93 NBA Finals run against Michael Jordan’s Bulls. Pettis, meanwhile, was part of the Mercury’s inaugural 1997 roster and later helped lead the team to the 1998 WNBA Finals before retiring in 2006 after returning for one final season.
