Rockstar Games has reportedly confirmed that Grand Theft Auto VI is currently running at 30 frames per second (FPS) on consoles, with no guarantee that a 60 FPS performance mode will be available when the game launches.

According to reports from Flow Games, Rockstar North co-director and head of development Rob Nelson shared the information during a presentation for content creators who recently visited the studio for an exclusive preview of the highly anticipated title. Nelson reportedly explained that the game is being developed to run at 30 FPS on current-generation consoles, while the development team continues evaluating whether a higher frame rate can be supported in the future.

Although many fans are hoping for a 60 FPS option at launch, Rockstar has not committed to offering one. Nelson reportedly said the studio still needs to consult its technical teams before confirming whether a performance mode—or other graphical options such as resolution settings and ray tracing—will be available at release.

If the game launches at 30 FPS, it would follow Rockstar's long-standing approach to its large open-world titles. Grand Theft Auto V only received a 60 FPS mode with its PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S upgrade years after its original release, while Red Dead Redemption 2 has yet to receive an official 60 FPS update on modern consoles.

There is also no confirmation on whether the upcoming PlayStation 5 Pro could offer enhanced performance. Some industry observers speculate that the upgraded hardware may support alternative display modes, such as 40 FPS on compatible 120Hz televisions, but Rockstar has not announced any platform-specific enhancements.

The reported 30 FPS limitation would only apply to console versions. A PC edition of Grand Theft Auto VI has not yet been officially announced, but based on Rockstar's release history, it is expected to arrive sometime after the console launch, potentially offering higher frame rates and additional graphics options.
