Red Robin Continues Turnaround Strategy as Restaurant Closures Remain Limited in Arizona

Red Robin is continuing its long-term business transformation by closing underperforming restaurants while working to strengthen its financial position. Although the burger chain has shuttered several locations across the country, the company has not filed for bankruptcy and says its focus remains on improving profitability and reducing debt.

Rather than implementing widespread closures, Red Robin has adopted a selective approach, evaluating restaurants based on financial performance, operating costs, customer traffic and lease agreements. The strategy is part of a broader effort to streamline operations and position the brand for long-term growth.

The company previously identified approximately 70 locations with weaker financial results whose leases expire over several years. Instead of closing all of them at once, executives are reviewing each restaurant individually to determine whether it can return to sustainable profitability.

Alongside these evaluations, Red Robin has introduced menu enhancements, operational improvements and new marketing initiatives designed to attract more guests and improve the overall dining experience.

Which Red Robin Restaurants Could Close?

Red Robin has not released a complete list of restaurants that may close during 2026. Confirmed closures have taken place in states such as California, Illinois and New Jersey, while company officials say future decisions will depend on each location's performance and lease timeline.

Executives have indicated that as many as 20 additional underperforming restaurants could close during 2026 if business conditions require. However, they also noted that stronger-than-expected financial results could reduce the number of planned closures.

Are Any Arizona Locations Closing?

Red Robin currently operates more than a dozen restaurants in Arizona, with most located throughout the Phoenix metropolitan area.

Based on the latest available information, no Arizona restaurants are currently scheduled for closure. Most locations continue to operate normally.

One exception appears to be a north Phoenix restaurant, which reportedly closed earlier this year to make way for a new Caldwell County BBQ location, according to local news reports and social media updates. Beyond that closure, there have been no announcements indicating additional Red Robin restaurants in Arizona will shut down in the near future.

For now, Arizona customers can continue enjoying their local Red Robin restaurants while the company advances its nationwide turnaround strategy.
