Red Lobster Confirms Huntsville Restaurant Will Close in September

Even as Red Lobster continues its recovery following its bankruptcy restructuring, the seafood chain is still reducing the size of its restaurant network across the United States.
The company now operates approximately 540 locations nationwide, a significant decline from the more than 700 restaurants it had before filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in May 2024. During the restructuring process, Red Lobster closed more than 100 restaurants, with the company attributing part of its financial struggles to the popular Ultimate Endless Shrimp promotion, which reportedly resulted in an estimated $19 million loss. Despite that setback, the chain recently brought the promotion back after a limited test run in April delivered encouraging results.
Several of this year's closures have drawn national attention. In May, Red Lobster permanently closed its oldest continuously operating restaurant in Tallahassee, Florida, ending a 56-year run. The company described the location as an important part of its history and a longtime fixture in the local community.
That same day, Red Lobster also shuttered restaurants in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania; Overland Park, Kansas; and Independence, Missouri, continuing its nationwide restructuring efforts.
In June, the company closed its iconic Times Square location in New York City after 23 years, leaving Manhattan without a Red Lobster restaurant for the first time in decades. Company officials cited ongoing construction that reduced customer access and foot traffic, along with plans to convert the building into residential apartments, as the primary reasons behind the decision. Red Lobster acknowledged that closing the landmark location was difficult, calling Times Square an important chapter in the brand's history.
Employees affected by the closures in both Tallahassee and Times Square were offered transfers to other restaurants and additional financial assistance to ease the transition.
