"Recall Warning: Mislabeling Leaves Walnut Allergen Undisclosed in Chocolates"

A gourmet chocolate company has issued a nationwide recall of select bonbon products after a labeling error failed to disclose the presence of walnuts — a major allergen that could pose a serious health risk to some consumers.
French Broad Chocolates announced the recall of its Bette’s Bake Sale Bonbon Collection, sold in six-piece, 12-piece, and 24-piece boxes, according to a notice published by the Food and Drug Administration. The affected products carry batch numbers 260414 and 260417.
The company warned that individuals with walnut allergies or severe sensitivities could face serious — potentially life-threatening — reactions if they consume the chocolates.
The recalled items were distributed between April 14 and April 20, 2026, and sold at retail locations in Asheville, North Carolina, as well as online to customers across multiple states. The products include boxes ranging from 2.5 ounces to 10 ounces, with “best by” dates between June 22 and June 30, 2026.
According to the company, the issue originated from an error in the printed tasting guide included with the products. The insert failed to properly identify walnuts as a tree nut allergen. Specifically, the Walnut Fudge bonbon — which contains walnuts — was mistakenly labeled as a different flavor, leading to the omission of the allergen warning.
The error was discovered on April 20, 2026, when a team member flagged the issue. The company stated that no illnesses have been reported so far.
Consumers who purchased the affected products are advised not to consume them and to contact the company for further guidance.
