Prime Video Expands Its Catalog With New Movies and Series This Week

Amazon Prime Video is adding a fresh lineup of movies and original series between July 13 and July 19, highlighted by the streaming debut of The Amateur and the action-comedy series Ride or Die.

The Amateur Brings Espionage and Revenge

Premiering on July 17, The Amateur stars Rami Malek in a gripping espionage thriller directed by James Hawes and inspired by Robert Littell's 1981 novel of the same name.

The story follows Charlie Heller, a brilliant CIA decoder whose life is shattered after his wife is killed in a terrorist attack in London. Frustrated by the agency's slow response, Heller embarks on a dangerous personal mission for justice, using his intelligence rather than brute force to track down those responsible.

The film features an impressive supporting cast that includes Laurence Fishburne, Rachel Brosnahan, Caitríona Balfe, and Michael Stuhlbarg. Since its theatrical release, The Amateur has received mixed critical reviews but has drawn attention for its suspenseful storytelling and strong performances.

Ride or Die Delivers Action, Comedy and Unexpected Twists

Also arriving this week is Ride or Die, an action-comedy series centered on lifelong best friends Debbie Claybourne and Judith Burton.

Their seemingly ordinary friendship is turned upside down when Debbie discovers that Judith has secretly been living a double life as a highly skilled assassin. As dangerous enemies emerge and old secrets come to light, the two women are forced into a high-stakes adventure that tests both their friendship and survival skills.

The series stars Octavia Spencer, Hannah Waddingham, Bill Nighy, and Ed Skrein.

Speaking with PEOPLE, Spencer revealed she immediately fell in love with the project after hearing the original pitch.

"I did exactly what you're not supposed to do—I committed after the very first meeting," Spencer joked. "I've heard hundreds of pitches throughout my career, but nothing compared to this one. It completely pulled me in and kept me on the edge of my seat."

She also praised the show's focus on strong female characters, calling it one of the aspects that excited her most.

For Waddingham, the opportunity felt almost unreal.

"When I received the email saying that Octavia Spencer and Tessa Coates wanted to meet with me over Zoom, I was stunned," she said. "Getting the chance to play this character alongside Octavia is truly a dream role."
