Princess Diana's Brother Appears to Show Support Following Meghan Markle's Althorp Photo Debate
Princess Diana's brother, Charles Spencer, has sparked speculation that he is quietly supporting Meghan Markle after the Duchess of Sussex faced criticism over photos shared from her family's recent visit to Althorp House, the historic Spencer family estate where Diana is buried.
The discussion began after Meghan posted a series of "Summer Holiday" photos on Instagram featuring Prince Harry, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet spending time together at Althorp. Among the images was one showing the family carrying flowers while visiting the estate, a place closely associated with Princess Diana's childhood and final resting place.
The post quickly generated mixed reactions online. Many followers viewed the photos as a heartfelt tribute to Harry's late mother, while others argued that moments connected to Diana's memory should remain private.
Although reports suggested the images also prompted unease in some royal circles, neither Buckingham Palace nor Kensington Palace publicly commented on the matter.
Rather than responding directly to the controversy, Charles Spencer appeared to take a more subtle approach. Shortly after Meghan's post, his wife, Dr. Cat Jarman, shared photographs from another meaningful location connected to the Spencer family.
The images documented a visit to the grave of John Spencer, Charles and Diana's older brother, who died shortly after birth in January 1960.
Alongside the photos, Jarman explained that Charles had taken her to visit the site, located near St. Mary Magdalene Church in Sandringham, where John is buried beside the family's grandfather. She also noted that Charles had personally restored his brother's headstone in recent years.
Jarman added that the church stands close to Park House, where Charles Spencer and his siblings spent part of their childhood, describing the visit as an opportunity to explore places connected to cherished family memories.
While neither Charles Spencer nor his wife mentioned Meghan or her Instagram post, many royal observers interpreted the timing as significant. Some suggested the family's willingness to share respectful images from an important family gravesite could be viewed as an indication that documenting meaningful family moments on social media is not necessarily inappropriate when done with sensitivity.
The episode also highlights the close relationship that has long existed between Prince Harry and the Spencer family. Following Princess Diana's death in 1997, Charles Spencer announced that she would be laid to rest at Althorp House, allowing her grave to remain under the care of her family and offering her sons a private place to visit away from public attention.
Over the years, members of the Spencer family have remained among Harry's closest relatives, maintaining a supportive relationship with both the Duke of Sussex and Meghan Markle.
Although Charles Spencer has made no public statement regarding Meghan's recent social media post, his family's activity has fueled discussion among royal watchers, with some viewing it as a quiet affirmation that honoring family history and preserving personal memories can coexist respectfully.
