The United States Department of Defense has released a major new collection of declassified documents related to unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP), marking one of the most extensive public disclosures of government UFO-related material in years.

The release — coordinated with the administration of Donald Trump — includes roughly 160 documents, along with videos, photographs, and historical records spanning decades of government investigations into unexplained aerial sightings. The files were published through a newly launched public website designed to increase transparency and public access.

Among the newly available material are reports describing unusual sightings observed by military personnel and federal employees, including mysterious light formations, orb-like objects, and unexplained aerial activity recorded in locations ranging from the western United States to the Middle East. The collection also contains historical records tied to the Apollo era and early UFO investigations dating back to the 1940s.

Some of the most discussed files include accounts from Apollo 17 astronauts describing unusual flashes on the lunar surface, as well as military imagery showing unidentified shapes and glowing objects captured during operations in 2024.

While the U.S. government has not claimed the documents prove extraterrestrial life, administration officials emphasized that the release reflects President Trump’s commitment to openness and accountability.

In a statement accompanying the release, the Pentagon said President Trump is focused on providing “maximum transparency” so Americans can review the information and form their own conclusions. Defense Secretary Pete Hegsethadded that the documents had fueled public speculation for years and that it was time for citizens to see the material firsthand.

The effort involved cooperation between multiple agencies, including the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, NASA, the FBI, and the Department of Energy. Some of the files expand upon previously released material, offering additional pages and fewer redactions than earlier public versions.

Public fascination with UFOs and UAP has remained high for decades. Polls continue to show that many Americans believe the government has withheld information related to unexplained aerial phenomena. Congressional hearings in recent years have further intensified interest surrounding possible classified programs and unexplained technologies.
