Historic Renewable Energy Project Powers a Brighter Future for America

A major milestone in America's clean energy journey has officially been reached. Pattern Energy has successfully completed and energized the SunZia Project, a transformative renewable energy and transmission initiative stretching across New Mexico and Arizona. Widely recognized as the largest renewable energy infrastructure project ever built in the United States, SunZia represents a bold vision of innovation, sustainability, and long-term economic growth.

The project combines approximately 3,650 megawatts of wind energy generation with a state-of-the-art 550-mile high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission system, delivering clean, reliable electricity across the western United States. Once operating at full capacity, SunZia will generate enough renewable energy to power nearly one million homes every year, helping families and communities benefit from affordable and sustainable electricity.

More than just an energy project, SunZia is the result of nearly two decades of dedication, collaboration, and perseverance. Over an 18-year development journey, countless engineers, workers, community leaders, landowners, government agencies, and industry partners came together to turn an ambitious vision into reality. Construction began in 2023, and the project was completed on schedule and within budget—a remarkable achievement for an infrastructure development of this scale.

As energy demand continues to rise across the American West, driven by population growth, technological innovation, and expanding industries, SunZia arrives at a critical moment. Its advanced transmission technology will help connect abundant renewable resources to communities where electricity is needed most, strengthening the power grid while supporting future economic development.

Industry leaders have praised the project as a model for the next generation of energy infrastructure. By enhancing grid reliability and enabling greater energy flexibility across state lines, SunZia helps lay the foundation for a stronger, more resilient energy future.

The benefits extend far beyond electricity. During peak construction, the project supported more than 2,000 jobs, creating opportunities for skilled workers and local businesses. More than 100 permanent operational positions will continue supporting communities in New Mexico and Arizona for years to come.

Pattern Energy estimates that SunZia will generate more than $20 billion in regional economic investment and contribute approximately $1.3 billion to local governments, schools, counties, and private landowners during its first 30 years of operation. These investments will help strengthen local economies, improve public services, and create lasting opportunities for future generations.

SunZia stands as a powerful reminder of what can be accomplished when innovation, determination, and collaboration come together. More than a renewable energy project, it is a symbol of progress, American ingenuity, and a shared commitment to building a stronger and more prosperous future.
