The Powerball jackpot climbed to an estimated $1.6 billion ahead of Wednesday night’s drawing, ranking as the fourth-largest prize in U.S. lottery history.
The jackpot continued to grow after no ticket matched all six numbers in Monday night’s drawing. The winning numbers were 3, 18, 36, 41 and 54, with the red Powerball 7 and a Power Play multiplier of 2.
According to lottery officials, the estimated cash option stands at $781.3 million.
While no one claimed the jackpot, nine tickets matched all five white balls, securing significant prizes. Those winning tickets were sold in Florida, Georgia, Illinois, New York (two), Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and Wisconsin.
Wednesday’s drawing marks the 47th drawing in the current jackpot run, setting a Powerball record for the longest jackpot cycle. It is also the fourth-largest jackpot ever offered in the game’s history.
The odds of winning any Powerball prize are 1 in 24.9, while the odds of hitting the jackpot remain a steep 1 in 292.2 million.
The jackpot was last won on Sept. 6, when two tickets sold in Missouri and Texas split a $1.787 billion prize.
A future winner will be able to choose between a lump-sum cash payment of approximately $781.3 million or an annuitized prize estimated at $1.7 billion, paid over 30 years. Both options are subject to federal and state taxes. The annuity includes one immediate payment followed by 29 annual payments that increase by 5% each year.
Powerball tickets are sold in 45 states, as well as Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Drawings are held three times a week — Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.
