PlayStation Fans to Experience State of Play Live in Theaters Through New Partnership

Alamo Drafthouse Cinema and Sony Interactive Entertainment are joining forces this June to bring PlayStation’s popular State of Play broadcast to movie theaters for the first time.

On June 2, select Alamo Drafthouse locations across the United States will host live screenings of the PlayStation presentation, allowing fans to watch major game announcements, trailers, and updates together on the big screen in real time alongside viewers tuning in online worldwide.

The special event is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. PT, 4 p.m. CT, and 5 p.m. ET and marks a new step in blending gaming culture with theatrical entertainment experiences.

Michael Kustermann said the collaboration represents an opportunity to expand the kinds of experiences audiences can enjoy in theaters.

“We’re incredibly excited to bring PlayStation’s State of Play to theaters for the very first time,” Kustermann said. “This partnership allows fans to celebrate gaming culture together in a communal environment while highlighting the growing connection between gaming, movies, and live entertainment.”

Jill Erb, senior director of marketing partnerships at Sony Interactive Entertainment, described State of Play as a major event for the global PlayStation community.

“PlayStation is built around incredible games and the shared experiences that connect fans,” Erb said. “Bringing State of Play into theaters creates a new way to experience the excitement, surprises, and energy that fans have come to expect.”

State of Play has become one of PlayStation’s signature digital showcases, regularly featuring previews of upcoming titles, developer announcements, gameplay reveals, and trailers from studios around the world.

For the theatrical version of the event, Alamo Drafthouse plans to enhance the experience with themed food and beverage offerings, gaming-inspired menu items, and additional surprises for attendees.

The screening event is also part of a broader partnership between the two companies. Previous collaborations included special merchandise promotions and themed movie screenings tied to PlayStation-related franchises and gaming culture.

Admission to the State of Play theater event will be free for guests who purchase a refundable food and non-alcoholic beverage voucher redeemable during the screening. Reservations officially opened on May 20 through the Alamo Drafthouse website.

Participating theaters include locations in New York City, Los Angeles, the San Francisco Bay Area, Chicago, Dallas-Fort Worth, and Raleigh.
