Pirates Open Series Against Orioles With Lineup Changes

PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Pirates begin their road trip with a three-game set against the Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards, making several adjustments to their lineup.

Tommy Pham returns to left field and will bat fourth, replacing Ji Hwan Bae, who started the series finale against the Milwaukee Brewers on Sept. 7 after being recalled from Triple-A Indianapolis earlier that day.

Jared Triolo, who played third base in that game, shifts back to shortstop and remains in the leadoff spot. Rookie Cam Devanney takes over at third base, batting ninth. Devanney collected his first major league RBI in the Pirates’ 10–2 loss to Milwaukee and is expected to remain a steady presence at third for the rest of the season.

Behind the plate, Henry Davis returns as catcher, replacing Joey Bart and hitting eighth, the last of four lineup changes. Spencer Horwitz continues at first base and bats second, while Nick Gonzales stays at second but drops to sixth in the order.

In the outfield, Bryan Reynolds holds his usual spot in right field and bats third. Oneil Cruz stays in center field but slides down to seventh, while Andrew McCutchen starts his second straight game as designated hitter, batting fifth.

On the mound, rookie right-hander Mike Burrows gets the start for Pittsburgh, opposing Orioles right-hander Kyle Bradish.

Burrows, who underwent Tommy John surgery in April 2023, has been carefully managed this season. He’s logged 113.2 innings in 2025 between Triple-A and the majors, surpassing his previous career high of 94.2 innings in 2023. In his last start, on Aug. 23 against the Colorado Rockies, Burrows threw four scoreless innings in a 5–1 win. More recently, he pitched out of the bullpen, working two innings against Boston on Aug. 30 and three scoreless frames versus the Dodgers on Sept. 3.

Since debuting on May 22, Burrows has started 16 of his 19 appearances, posting a 2–4 record, a 4.08 ERA, 82 strikeouts, 29 walks, a .239 opponent batting average, and a 1.26 WHIP.

First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
