Perez Hilton’s Mother Files for Temporary Custody of His Three Children Following Mental Health Crisis

Perez Hilton’s mother, Teresita Lavandeira, has filed a petition seeking temporary custody of the celebrity blogger’s three children following his recent mental health crisis that led to his hospitalization. According to court documents obtained by the media, the request was filed on August 7 with Hilton’s voluntary consent.

In the legal filing, Hilton—whose full name is Mario Armando Lavandeira Jr.—acknowledged that granting temporary custody to his mother is in the best interests of his three children: Mario, 13, Mia, 11, and Mayte, 8.

Under the temporary custody arrangement, Teresita Lavandeira will have the authority to make medical and dental decisions for the children, access their medical and educational records, oversee school-related matters, and handle other responsibilities necessary for their care.

Hilton also recognized that the custody order is temporary and that he may petition the court to restore legal custody in the future. However, he acknowledged that the court could require him to complete a reasonable transition plan before the children are returned to his care.

In a separate filing, Lavandeira asked the court to seal the case from public view to protect the children’s privacy. The petition states that the family has faced intense media attention and that keeping the records confidential would help shield the children from further emotional distress while allowing them to heal privately.

The family’s attorney said their primary concern is ensuring the children’s safety and well-being while providing them with as much stability and normalcy as possible during this difficult period.

The custody request comes just days after Hilton was hospitalized following a mental health emergency at his Miami home. Authorities responded after receiving multiple reports regarding an individual allegedly engaging in acts of self-harm during a livestream on social media. Law enforcement confirmed that Hilton was safely taken into custody, received emergency medical treatment, and was transported to a local hospital.

According to his family, Hilton remains hospitalized under Florida’s Baker Act, which allows for the temporary involuntary hospitalization of individuals experiencing a mental health crisis. In a subsequent statement, relatives said his condition is serious but stable and that his recovery is expected to be lengthy, including additional surgeries related to his injuries.

The incident follows a difficult year marked by significant health challenges. Earlier this year, Hilton was hospitalized after developing an ulcer, intestinal perforation, and sepsis, requiring approximately three weeks of inpatient treatment. Weeks later, he underwent emergency surgery to remove a large blood clot. Sources close to the family said those medical complications had taken a profound physical and emotional toll in the months leading up to his recent crisis.
