The 2025-26 UEFA Champions League final delivered another dramatic chapter as Arsenal F.C. and Paris Saint-Germainremained deadlocked after regulation, forcing the European title match into extra time.

Arsenal struck first through Kai Havertz, who capitalized on a fortunate sequence early in the game. A clearance attempt from PSG captain Marquinhos deflected off Arsenal’s Leandro Trossard, creating space for Havertz to break down the left side.

After seeing his passing lane to Bukayo Saka closed off, Havertz elected to shoot and produced a superb finish, lifting the ball beyond goalkeeper Matvei Safonov and into the net to give Arsenal the lead.

The goal marked another milestone in Havertz’s European career. Having previously scored in the 2021 Champions League final for Chelsea F.C., he joined an elite group of players that includes Cristiano Ronaldo and Mario Mandžukić as players who have scored in Champions League finals for two different clubs.

PSG responded strongly after halftime, continuing to control possession and create pressure in Arsenal’s defensive third. Their persistence paid off midway through the second half when Georgian winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia drove into the penalty area and was brought down by defender Cristhian Mosquera.

Following a VAR review, the referee confirmed the penalty decision.

Stepping up to the spot in the 65th minute, reigning Ballon d'Or winner Ousmane Dembélé calmly converted the penalty kick, sending goalkeeper David Raya the wrong way and leveling the score at 1-1.

The final represents another significant meeting between two clubs that have become familiar opponents on the European stage. Last season, PSG eliminated Arsenal in the knockout rounds before ultimately capturing the Champions League trophy.

The French champions are now attempting to become the first club since Real Madrid C.F. to successfully defend the Champions League title, while Arsenal seeks to capture one of the most prestigious trophies in club football after a remarkable European campaign.

With both sides unable to find a winner in regulation, the battle for continental supremacy moved into extra time with everything still to play for.
