Paramount+ to Absorb BET+ After Acquiring Tyler Perry’s Stake

Streaming platform BET+ will be discontinued as a standalone service, with its content set to be integrated into Paramount+, the company announced on Friday.
The move follows Paramount Skydance’s acquisition of Tyler Perry Studios’ equity stake in BET+, a deal that clears the path for consolidating the platform’s content under Paramount’s main streaming service. While financial terms were not disclosed, the buyout is reportedly valued in the eight-figure range.
Beginning in June, approximately 1,000 hours of BET+ programming will be added to Paramount+, including popular titles such as All the Queen’s Men, Zatima, The Ms. Pat Show, and the critically acclaimed Diarra From Detroit.
In a memo to staff, BET Networks President Louis Carr described the transition as a strategic expansion, saying it will allow BET’s storytelling, creators, and cultural impact to reach a broader global audience. The content will be featured within a dedicated BET hub on Paramount+, alongside the platform’s existing lineup of series, films, sports, and special programming.
Despite the change, BET will continue to operate its linear TV channel and BET Studios will remain active in producing original content. Tyler Perry is also expected to maintain his partnership with BET through ongoing content deals, and the network will continue to support FAST channels dedicated to his programming.
The integration aligns with Paramount’s broader strategy to scale up Paramount+ and unify its streaming operations under a single platform. CEO David Ellison has emphasized the importance of expanding the service’s global reach, and the BET+ transition represents a step toward that goal—though on a smaller scale compared to potential future mergers within the industry.
Carr highlighted that BET has already seen strong growth by expanding its presence across multiple platforms, particularly through free ad-supported streaming channels, which have helped introduce its content to new audiences.
He concluded by emphasizing that the brand’s continued success is driven by its creative teams and commitment to storytelling, adding that this transition marks an opportunity for BET to grow its influence on a larger, global stage.
