NFL Preseason Week 1 Continues Saturday with Eight Games

The NFL preseason rolls on Saturday (08/10) with eight games scheduled. Three of them will be broadcast nationally on NFL Network, while the other five will have local coverage. (All preseason games are available to stream on NFL+).

Saturday’s highlights include the potential debuts of rookie quarterbacks Cam Ward and Jaxson Dart, as well as Justin Fields playing for the first time with the Jets and J.J. McCarthy returning to action after missing all of last season with a knee injury. The Jaguars' new head coach, Liam Coen, will also debut his offensive scheme, though it’s unclear how much Trevor Lawrence will play in the preseason opener.

What to Watch for on Saturday

• Aaron Rodgers will not play in the Steelers’ preseason opener, despite volunteering. Mason Rudolph and Skyler Thompson will handle QB duties against the Jaguars.

• Patrick Mahomes is expected to see some action, as Chiefs coach Andy Reid typically plays his starters in preseason, but he likely won’t go a full quarter against the Cardinals.

• How much will rookie Travis Hunter (No. 2 overall pick) play for the Jaguars? He’s expected to split time at WR and CB.

• Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell usually rests starters in preseason, but J.J. McCarthy may need reps after sitting out all of 2024.

• Dak Prescott hasn’t played in the preseason since 2019, and coach Brian Schottenheimer was vague on whether he’ll see action with new WR George Pickens. With backup Joe Milton injured, third-string QB Will Grier could get extended snaps.

• Titans coach Brian Callahan said everyone will play against the Buccaneers, but how many snaps will No. 1 pick Cam Ward get?

• Justin Fields wants to play in all three preseason games, but new Jets coach Aaron Glenn may limit him, following Dan Campbell’s approach in Detroit.

• Giants coach Brian Daboll didn’t confirm if starters will play against the Bills, but rookie Jaxson Dart is expected to get most of the QB reps.
