Former NFL defensive lineman Josh Mauro reportedly spent several days using drugs and alcohol before his accidental overdose death earlier this year, according to a newly released report from the Maricopa County Medical Examinercited by the California Post.

The investigation indicates that Mauro allegedly engaged in a four-day binge involving heavy drinking and cocaine use at his Arizona home in the days leading up to his death on April 23.

Authorities reconstructed the former player's final days through interviews with several women who visited the residence during that period. According to the report, gatherings continued almost continuously until the hours before Mauro was discovered unresponsive.

Investigators reportedly found evidence of drug use throughout the home, including a bottle cap containing a white powdery substance, additional white residue next to a rolled dollar bill, a syringe discarded in a trash can and several tissues that appeared to contain blood.

The report also states that Mauro met a female dancer about a week before his death and later invited her, two other women and a friend to his home on April 23.

According to police, the woman told investigators that Mauro and one of his friends consumed cocaine, drank tequila and listened to music throughout the evening. She later went to sleep, and when she awoke, she found Mauro unresponsive.

Mauro died at the age of 35. His father, Greg Mauro, announced the tragic news several days later, asking for prayers as the family mourned the loss of what he described as an "amazing son, brother, uncle, grandson and friend."

Medical examiners later concluded that Mauro died from acute combined fentanyl, cocaine and ethanol intoxication. His death was officially ruled accidental.

After going undrafted out of Stanford University in 2014, Mauro went on to enjoy an eight-season NFL career, playing for the Arizona Cardinals, New York Giants, Oakland Raiders, and Jacksonville Jaguars.

He appeared in 80 NFL games, recording 130 total tackles and five sacks before retiring from professional football.
