Officers from the Shreveport Police Department responded shortly after 6 a.m. to reports of a domestic disturbance in the 300 block of West 79th Street. According to police spokesperson Christopher Bordelon, the situation quickly unfolded into a large and complex crime scene involving multiple locations.
Authorities identified three primary scenes connected to the incident: the initial shooting site on West 79th Street, a second related shooting on nearby Harrison Street, and another residence where one of the victims fled in search of help. Bordelon described the scope of the investigation as “extensive,” highlighting the coordinated response required across the area.
In total, ten people were shot, police confirmed, though details about the two survivors have not yet been released. Images from the scene showed a heavy law enforcement presence, with streets blocked off and emergency responders working across multiple locations.
Following the shootings, the suspect allegedly fled the area and carried out a carjacking near the intersection of West 79th Street and Lynnwood Avenue. Police initiated a pursuit, which ultimately ended in neighboring Bossier Parish, where officers fatally shot the suspect.
Investigators believe the individual acted alone. While authorities have not yet released the suspect’s identity, Bordelon indicated that some of the children present in the homes were related to him. A clear motive for the attack has not yet been determined.
Residents in the neighborhood expressed shock and grief. Mack London, 71, who has lived on the block since 1991, said he was unaware of the gunfire until he stepped outside later that morning and saw the overwhelming police presence. He described the violence as unprecedented for the area, calling it deeply disturbing — especially given that children were among the victims.
City leaders also addressed the tragedy. Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux described the घटना as one of the most devastating in the city’s history, emphasizing that the community is now focused on processing the loss and supporting those affected.
Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry said he was heartbroken by the घटना and expressed gratitude to law enforcement and first responders. House Speaker Mike Johnson, who has long represented the Shreveport area, also extended condolences, stating that his team remains in close contact with local authorities.
The investigation remains ongoing as officials continue working to piece together the full circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
