Reality TV star and influencer Mikayla Matthews has announced she is stepping away from Hulu's hit series The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, saying her decision is rooted in personal values and a refusal to support behavior she believes conflicts with her principles.

The announcement comes as the cast has been filming Season 6 in Italy, surprising many fans of the popular reality series.

In an emotional message shared on Instagram, Matthews revealed that she made the decision more than a week ago after learning information that convinced her it was time to leave.

"I made my decision over a week ago... I will not be continuing the show at this moment," Matthews wrote. "I've said from the beginning that I'm not comfortable being part of something that continues to platform behavior I don't agree with."

She explained that her own childhood experiences with different forms of abuse heavily influenced her choice, saying she could no longer participate in a project that, in her view, normalizes or profits from harmful behavior.

Matthews stressed that no financial opportunity is worth compromising her beliefs.

"There's no amount of money worth going against my morals," she wrote. "Continuing to directly profit from this behavior feels wrong and unethical. It feels like a disservice to the children, everyone's healing, and the millions of people watching."

Although Matthews did not directly name anyone in her statement, her comments appear to reference the ongoing controversies surrounding fellow cast member Taylor Frankie Paul, whose personal life has generated significant headlines throughout the series.

Paul has faced public legal disputes and custody issues involving former partner Dakota Mortensen. Their relationship has remained a central storyline on the show, with previous allegations and resurfaced videos leading to intense public scrutiny. Throughout the latest season, Matthews and Paul also clashed on-screen before appearing to reconcile, though Matthews' latest statement suggests their differences extended beyond filming.
