Michael Dell Praises Trump Accounts Expansion, Says Stock Donations Can Inspire America's Next Generation of Investors

Dell Technologies founder Michael Dell is defending the Trump administration's decision to allow donations of individual company stocks into Trump Accounts, arguing the policy gives millions of American children new opportunities to build wealth and learn about investing.
The rule change, which took effect last week, permits charities and philanthropic organizations to contribute shares of individual companies to children's Trump Accounts. The tax-advantaged investment accounts, created under President Donald Trump's One Big Beautiful Tax Act, are designed to help young Americans save for education, entrepreneurship, homeownership, or retirement. Previously, contributions were limited to diversified, low-cost index funds.
Dell dismissed criticism that the policy could expose children to unnecessary financial risk or serve the interests of wealthy donors.
"It's difficult to see how giving children ownership in successful American companies could be considered a negative," Dell said during an interview Wednesday. "The alternative is that they wouldn't own those assets at all."
He argued that owning shares in innovative businesses could encourage young people to learn more about investing, financial markets, entrepreneurship, and long-term wealth creation.
"These investments can spark curiosity about capitalism, innovation, and how markets work," Dell said. "That knowledge can benefit them for years to come."
Supporting Financial Opportunity
Some critics have questioned whether concentrating investments in individual companies could increase risk compared to diversified portfolios. Others have raised concerns about the tax implications for large donors.
Dell, however, believes the program's broader mission outweighs those concerns by expanding financial participation among young Americans.
Together with his wife, Susan Dell, the billionaire entrepreneur has pledged $6.25 billion to fund Trump Accounts for approximately 25 million children, contributing $250 to each eligible account.
According to Dell, more than 10 million children have already received contributions totaling roughly $2.6 billion, with the full investment expected to be completed this week.
More Businesses Expected to Join
Dell also said he expects additional philanthropists and employers to participate in the initiative, with many companies considering matching government contributions or making even larger investments on behalf of employees' children and young people in the communities where they operate.
He said the growing participation reflects increasing confidence that the program can promote financial literacy, encourage long-term investing, and give millions of children a stronger financial foundation as they enter adulthood.
