A new nationwide customer satisfaction survey has named Meijer Express as America's highest-rated convenience store brand, surpassing well-known chains such as Buc-ee’s, Wawa, Sheetz, and QuikTrip.
The rankings, released by the American Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI) and based on feedback from nearly 9,500 consumers, awarded Meijer Express a score of 82, marking the largest year-over-year improvement among all brands measured.
Meijer Takes the Top Spot
The Michigan-based retailer climbed 5% from last year's survey to claim first place, reflecting strong customer approval for its stores, rewards program, and overall shopping experience.
A three-way tie for second place went to QuikTrip, Sheetz, and Wawa, each earning a score of 80.
Last year's leader, Kwik Trip (known as Kwik Star in some markets), slipped to 79, while Texas favorite Buc-ee'sfinished with a score of 77, tying with Maverik, Pilot, RaceTrac, and Shell.
Customer Experience Drives Satisfaction
Industry analysts say convenience stores are evolving beyond traditional fuel stops, with customers increasingly using mobile apps, loyalty programs, prepared food services, and digital ordering.
According to ACSI researchers, shoppers now expect a seamless experience both inside the store and through digital platforms. Clean facilities, organized stores, efficient service, and user-friendly mobile apps have become key factors influencing customer satisfaction.
Meijer Continues to Expand
Meijer has continued growing its footprint across the Midwest, recently opening new locations in Michigan and Indiana, while preparing to enter the Pittsburgh market in 2027.
Despite Meijer's strong performance, the survey found that overall customer satisfaction across the convenience store industry declined slightly over the past year. Ratings for staff helpfulness, store experience, and mobile app quality all experienced modest decreases.
A Focus on Convenience and Value
A Meijer spokesperson said the company is honored to receive the top ranking and credited its success to delivering both convenience and value through its Meijer Express locations and mPerks loyalty program.
The company emphasized that its teams remain focused on providing customers with a fast, reliable, and enjoyable experience whether they're fueling their vehicles, purchasing groceries, or making quick stops while traveling.
Originally founded in Greenville, Michigan, in 1934, Meijer has grown into one of the Midwest's largest family-owned retailers, operating more than 500 supercenters, grocery stores, and express locations while continuing to emphasize customer service and community involvement.
