Kylian Mbappé admitted he “should have scored more” despite netting a hat trick in Real Madrid’s dominant 5-0 away victory over Kairat Almaty on Tuesday.

After a sluggish start, Madrid found their breakthrough when Mbappé converted a first-half penalty, before doubling his tally shortly after the restart. The French star then completed his hat trick in the 73rd minute, paving the way for Eduardo Camavinga and Brahim Díaz to round off a convincing win — Madrid’s second straight triumph in the Champions League group stage.

“A player like me, when I get five chances, I should be scoring five goals,” Mbappé told Movistar. “Three is good, but I know I can be more clinical. I’ll keep working to improve.”

Head coach Xabi Alonso echoed that sentiment: “In this competition, when you have opportunities, you must take them. We could have scored more tonight, but the mission is accomplished.”

The win in Kazakhstan came as a timely response after Madrid’s humbling 5-2 defeat to Atletico in Saturday’s LaLiga derby.

“We can’t forget what happened at the weekend,” Mbappé added. “This is another competition, but we must learn from it and make sure it doesn’t happen again.”

Mbappé also highlighted the role of goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, whose long ball led directly to his second goal of the night.

“I’m not sure if he meant it that way, but it was a perfect pass,” he said with a smile. “He did 80% of the work, and I just finished it off.”
