Powerball Jackpot Grows to $950 Million After No Winner in Wednesday's Drawing

The Powerball jackpot has climbed to $950 million – the game's sixth-largest prize in its history – after no one matched all the numbers in Wednesday's drawing.

The winning numbers for Wednesday's drawing were: 9, 12, 22, 41, 61, and the red Powerball 25.

If there is a winner in the next drawing on Saturday, they can choose between an annuitized prize of $950 million or a lump sum payment of $428.9 million, both before taxes.

"America has signaled loud and clear – it's ready to play for a massive Powerball jackpot," said Matt Strawn, Powerball Product Group Chair and Iowa Lottery CEO.

A Moment of Anticipation

An image of customers filling out playslips at a store in Hawthorne, California – which has sold winning tickets in past large jackpots – captures the excitement surrounding the prize.

In Wednesday's drawing, six tickets won $1 million or more by matching all five white balls.

The jackpot has been rolling since May 31, when a California player claimed a $204.5 million prize. Since this streak began, 56 tickets have won $1 million or more, and another 558 have won prizes of $50,000 or more.

Among the Largest Jackpots in History

The current jackpot now ranks among Powerball's largest ever, behind milestones such as:

$2.04 billion (California, November 2022)

$1.765 billion (California, October 2023)

$1.586 billion (split between California, Florida, and Tennessee in January 2016)

$1.326 billion (Oregon, April 2024)

How It Works

Powerball tickets cost $2 per play and are sold in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. More than half of all ticket sales revenue remains in the jurisdiction where the ticket was sold. Since its inception in 1992, the game has generated over $36 billion for beneficiary programs supported by U.S. lotteries.

Winners who choose the annuity option receive one immediate payment followed by 29 annual payments that increase by 5% each year.
