What We Know About the Midtown Manhattan Shooter

The Suspect and Motive
Police identified the gunman as 27-year-old Shane Tamura, who drove cross-country with a semiautomatic rifle before carrying out a mass shooting at 345 Park Avenue—home to the NFL headquarters—on July 28, 2025. Authorities found a note in his pocket claiming he suffered from CTE (chronic traumatic encephalopathy), a brain injury often linked to football, and made vague references to the NFL. Tamura died by suicide inside the building.

The Attack
Surveillance footage showed Tamura allowing a woman to exit an elevator unharmed before shooting a security guard at the lobby desk. He then proceeded to the 33rd floor, where he opened fire in the offices of Rudin Management—apparently after missing the NFL’s offices due to taking the wrong elevator.

The Victims
Four people were killed:

  • A building security guard

  • A Blackstone executive (a mother and wife)

  • A police officer (father of two with a third child on the way)

  • A Rudin Management employee (name withheld per family’s request)

Aftermath
Bullet holes were found in an NFL crest near an elevator bank, suggesting Tamura targeted the league. Mayor Eric Adams stated the gunman appeared to be "going after NFL employees" but ended up at the wrong office.
