As more details emerge about Robin Westman, the person suspected of carrying out the shooting at the Annunciation Church on Wednesday, 5 INVESTIGATES is uncovering a disturbing past documented in an online manifesto.
Videos posted to a YouTube account, attributed to Westman and since taken down, showed an arsenal of guns, ammunition, and a handwritten four-page manifesto addressed to her family and friends. Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O'Hara confirmed that investigators believe Westman was the author of the videos.
In the document, Westman begins by apologizing but without expecting forgiveness, stating: "I was corrupted by this world and have learned to hate what life is." She describes a long battle with depression and suicidal thoughts, stating: "I have lost all hope and decided to perform my final action against this world. [...] I know this is wrong, but I can't seem to stop myself."
The manifesto concludes with a request for prayers for the victims and their families.
The videos, however, contradict this remorse. They displayed:
Shooting targets with the face of Jesus.
Guns and ammunition adorned with memes, anti-religious phrases, and references to mass murderers from Sandy Hook, the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh, and the mosque attacks in Christchurch, New Zealand.
Apologies for the Holocaust and calls for Israel to "fall" and "burn."
A gesture associated with white supremacy, racial slurs, and a patch with the old Minnesota flag and the phrase "Do it before the anxiety kicks in."
Police also identified in the material a journal with Cyrillic characters, a hand-drawn map of the church, and a smoke bomb, an item later used in the attack.
