LSU Tigers Capture 8th College World Series Title in Electrifying Showdown!

For the second time in three years, LSU baseball reigns supreme! In a game packed with drama, the Tigers defeated No. 13 Coastal Carolina 5-3 on June 22 in Game 2 of the College World Series championship at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha, Nebraska.

A Game-Changing Fourth Inning

The momentum shifted dramatically in the fourth inning when LSU exploded against Coastal Carolina ace Jacob Morrison. With the bases loaded, Chris Stanfield struck first with a two-RBI single. Then, Derek Curiel delivered the knockout blow—a clutch two-out, two-RBI single up the middle—extending LSU's lead to 5-1.

LSU Cements Its Legacy

With this victory, the Tigers secured their eighth national title, solidifying their place as the second-winningest program in college baseball history, trailing only USC (12 titles). This also marks head coach Jay Johnson’s second championship at LSU, making him the fastest coach in NCAA history to win two College World Series titles.

"I'm just so proud. This is a true team. Our motto all year was 'tough and together,' and that’s exactly what they showed from August 26th until now," an emotional Johnson said during ESPN’s broadcast.

Controversy and Ejections

The game wasn’t without drama. Coastal Carolina’s Kevin Schnall and first-base coach Matt Schillingwere ejected in the first inning after arguing balls and strikes with home plate umpire Angel Campos. Both received suspensions that will keep them out of the team’s early 2026 season games.

Standout Performances

  • Anthony Eyanson dominated on the mound, pitching 6 1/3 innings with nine strikeouts while holding Coastal Carolina’s offense in check.

  • Dean Mihos put Coastal Carolina on the board first with a solo homer in the second inning, but Ethan Frey quickly answered with an RBI double to tie the game.

SEC’s Dominance Continues

With this win, LSU extends the SEC’s streak to six straight college baseball national titles, further cementing the conference’s supremacy in the sport.
