James Haven Opens Up About His Sexuality in Emotional Public Letter

James Haven, the brother of actress Angelina Jolie, has publicly shared his sexuality in an emotional message, saying he no longer wants to hide an important part of who he is.

Haven made the announcement during a recent livestream alongside his former wife, Romi Imbelli, where the two discussed how they have remained close friends despite the end of their marriage earlier this year.

During the broadcast, Haven read a deeply personal letter describing his journey toward self-acceptance.

Reflecting on his childhood, he recalled feeling drawn to Disney princesses and experimenting with glitter and makeup—moments that, he said, made him feel happy and authentic.

"As a child, I didn't have the words to understand those feelings," he explained. "Like many gay children, I learned to question parts of myself long before I learned to embrace them."

Haven said he spent years trying to suppress aspects of his identity in an effort to fit in but eventually realized that living authentically was the only path forward.

"Coming out isn't about becoming someone different," he said. "It's about allowing people to know the person who has always been there."

He also expressed hope that those closest to him would respond with understanding and compassion, encouraging love and acceptance over fear or judgment.

Concluding his letter, Haven reflected on his younger self, saying the child he once was had never been confused or broken, but simply deserved the freedom to be himself.

Following the livestream, Imbelli shared her own message on social media, explaining that her intention was never to disclose Haven's personal life without his consent. Instead, she said she hoped to support him as he chose to share his story on his own terms.
