Travis Hunter shined on Monday night with an impressive catch but also gave Jacksonville Jaguars fans a scare when he left the field with a possible issue as a cornerback.

One of the risks of Hunter playing both ways is the increased exposure to injury. Up until then, he had held up well in the first four games, but early in the fourth quarter, he had to leave the game.

Kansas City Chiefs receiver Xavier Worthy — holder of the fastest 40-yard dash record in NFL Scouting Combine history — ran a deep route. Hunter had to go full speed to keep up with him in coverage. Mahomes overthrew Worthy, but Hunter came off limping and signaled to the sideline that he needed to come out.

The Jaguars breathed a sigh of relief when Hunter returned to the field for the next offensive play, even though it resulted in an interception for the Chiefs.

The incident highlighted the risk of playing Hunter both ways. Maintaining that pace throughout an entire season will be challenging, but the player’s talent is undeniable — and he showed it to a national audience.

Before limping off, Hunter produced the first major highlight of his NFL career. Trevor Lawrence escaped pressure and found Hunter downfield. The pass was underthrown, but Hunter came back to make a spectacular catch in traffic for a 44-yard gain.

This play was proof of why the Jaguars traded up in the draft to select him as the second overall pick. The reception even led to a touchdown.

Hunter is getting a lot of work with the team, and although his NFL career is just beginning, this play showcased the talent that earned him the Heisman Trophy at the University of Colorado. The team needs to see more of that — without any more injury scares.
