India vs Sri Lanka – Highlights, Asia Cup 2025
Sri Lanka produced a spirited performance, turning what seemed like a low-stakes match into a thrilling contest, but India once again asserted their dominance and extended their unbeaten run in the tournament to six games.
After being invited to bat first, India posted 202/5 in 20 overs and looked firmly in control. Their grip strengthened when Hardik Pandya dismissed Kusal Mendis on just the fourth ball of the chase. However, few expected the stunning response from the visitors.
Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Perera stitched together a remarkable 127-run stand off 70 balls for the second wicket, leaving India momentarily shaken. Perera departed for 58, but Nissanka stole the show with a blistering 52-ball century, finishing with 107 off 58 deliveries.
Despite Sri Lanka’s heroics, India fought back hard and forced the game into a Super Over, where they sealed victory with relative ease. Still, the finish was marred by controversy.
On the fourth legal delivery of the Super Over, bowled by Arshdeep Singh, Dasun Shanaka attempted a bye. Sanju Samson threw down the stumps, and the umpire initially ruled Shanaka out caught behind after Singh’s appeal. Shanaka reviewed, and replays confirmed there was no edge. Since the caught-behind decision rendered the ball dead once Samson took it, the attempted run-out no longer counted. After a lengthy on-field discussion involving Suryakumar Yadav and the officials, the final verdict stood: not out.
