Heartland Captures U15 National Title at the 2026 USA Bowling National Championships

LAKEVILLE, Minnesota – The team representing the Heartland region claimed the U15 title at the 2026 USA Bowling National Championships after a dominant performance in the championship match at Lucky Strike Lakeville. The best-of-five finals were broadcast live on Bowling TV, the 24-hour channel dedicated exclusively to bowling, and streamed on BowlTV.

Known as "3 Gs & a B," the championship team—made up of three girls and one boy—swept the Midwest Intimidators from the Upper Midwest region 3-0 to capture the national title.

The winning lineup featured Lea Besevic, Averie Bourne, Olivia Titus, and Ben Dahle, under the guidance of head coach Clinton Bourne. The runner-up team included Bella Hagen, Mason Loria, Tate Richart, Jaxson Woods, Brendan Zabelka, and Kaeden Zear, coached by Josh Woods and Chad Zear.

The championship was contested in the traditional Baker format, where each bowler is responsible for specific frames, making teamwork and consistency essential.

A Dominant Championship Performance

Heartland displayed remarkable consistency throughout the finals. In the opening match, the team earned a 216-169victory after recovering from an early shaky start and finishing with four consecutive strikes.

The momentum continued in Game 2, where Heartland posted another impressive 215-169 win, fueled by a five-strike streak that effectively put the match out of reach.

The third and final game nearly became historic. Heartland opened with seven consecutive strikes, raising hopes of a perfect 300 Baker game. Although two open frames followed, the team maintained complete control and closed out the match with a commanding 242-184 victory to secure the national championship.

Ben Dahle Emerges as a Standout Performer

While every member of the team contributed to the victory, Ben Dahle delivered one of the most impressive performances of the championship. Bowling the second, sixth, and tenth frames in each Baker game, the talented left-hander recorded 11 strikes in 13 deliveries, showing exceptional composure under the bright lights and pressure of the televised finals.

"I felt really comfortable out there," Dahle said. "I enjoy the pressure—it doesn't bother me. Once I found my line, everything became muscle memory."

A Team Formed in an Unexpected Way

Head coach Clinton Bourne revealed that the team's final lineup came together only shortly before the tournament.

The original plan was to compete with an all-girls team, but after one player withdrew, the coaches searched for a replacement—and Ben Dahle quickly became the perfect fit.

"The three girls had already bowled together in several tournaments," Bourne explained. "When one player had to leave, we reached out looking for someone, and Ben was the first person we found. He turned out to be the perfect addition."

Bourne also noted that Dahle will age out of the U15 division.

"The girls will be able to return next year, but Ben won't. Replacing him will be incredibly difficult, and I'm excited to see what the future holds for him."

Success Without Practicing Together

One of the most remarkable aspects of Heartland's championship run is that the players live in different cities and rarely had the opportunity to practice together before the event.

"Each of us practiced four, five, even six days a week, but always individually," Bourne said. "We never had the chance to practice together before regionals or before nationals."

Even so, the chemistry was undeniable. Bourne kept the exact same bowling order throughout the tournament: Olivia Titus, Ben Dahle, Averie Bourne, and Lea Besevic.

The consistency paid off, leading Heartland to an unforgettable national championship.

Pride Despite the Defeat

Although his team fell short in the final, Upper Midwest head coach Chad Zear praised his players for their growth and determination throughout the tournament.

"This experience has been truly special," Zear said. "They learned they can accomplish great things when they work together. Their positive attitude never changed, and that made me proud. To me, they leave here as champions."

More Than $120,000 Awarded in Scholarships

In addition to live coverage of the championship matches, BowlTV also streamed the qualifying rounds and match-play competition leading up to the finals.

For the third consecutive year, the event awarded scholarship funds totaling more than $120,000 across the U12 and U15divisions at both the regional and national levels.

The 2026 USA Bowling National Championships featured teams representing 16 regions from across the United States. Every team earned its place in the national tournament by winning its respective regional championship, showcasing many of the country's most promising young bowling talents.
