NAACP Collier County Branch 5117-B has announced plans for a free public Juneteenth celebration set to take place May 30 at the Golden Gate Community Center in Naples, Florida. Organizers say the event is designed to promote community unity, cultural awareness, and economic empowerment throughout the region.
The celebration is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. at the community center located on Golden Gate Parkway and is expected to bring together residents from a wide range of backgrounds, including African-American, Caribbean, Haitian, Afro-Latino, and African communities.
According to organizers, this year’s Juneteenth event will focus on themes of Black excellence, wealth-building, health, education, and strengthening families. Community leaders say the gathering is intended not only as a cultural celebration, but also as an opportunity to encourage dialogue, connection, and long-term community growth.
The festival will feature a variety of family-friendly activities and entertainment, including a “Taste of the Diaspora” food experience highlighting cultural cuisine, live music performances, cultural dance presentations, local Black-owned business vendors, youth activities, and interactive games designed for multiple generations.
Organizers expect strong attendance from families, local businesses, educators, nonprofit groups, youth organizations, and community leaders from across Collier County and surrounding areas.
The event is also being organized in partnership with the Boys & Girls Club of Naples & Immokalee, which plans to offer mentorship activities and youth-centered programming during the week leading up to the celebration.
Juneteenth co-chair Carlotta Jackreece Smith emphasized that the event represents more than a traditional festival.
“Juneteenth is more than a celebration; it’s an opportunity to bring our community together around culture, empowerment, education, and unity,” Smith said.
The NAACP branch said it continues working throughout the year on advocacy initiatives, educational outreach, and community engagement programs aimed at advancing equity and supporting communities of color in Southwest Florida.
Community members interested in participating in the celebration or obtaining additional event details are encouraged to contact the organization directly.
