Music icon Gladys Knight has announced that she will reduce her live performance schedule, marking the beginning of what she described as a new chapter in her life.

The 82-year-old Motown legend, who has recently been touring both as a solo artist and alongside Smokey Robinson, shared the news in a heartfelt message on Instagram. Her announcement comes after growing public concern about her health following several recent performances.

According to reports, some audience members and individuals involved with the tour noticed moments in which Knight appeared fatigued, occasionally stepped away from center stage or relied more heavily on her background vocalists during certain songs. Her husband and longtime manager, William McDowell, has firmly denied reports claiming that Knight has been diagnosed with dementia. Speaking publicly, he emphasized that no such medical diagnosis has been made.

McDowell acknowledged that, like many older adults, Knight experiences both good days and more challenging ones, but said her passion for performing remains unchanged.

"All she wants to do is sing," he said, adding that her love for music continues to inspire her despite recent health concerns.

As a precaution, McDowell revealed that Knight will undergo a comprehensive medical evaluation in the near future. He also said her upcoming performance on September 5 will play an important role in determining whether the remainder of her tour, currently scheduled through mid-November, will continue as planned.

Married for 25 years, McDowell said his priority is his wife's health and well-being. If future performances prove too physically demanding, he is prepared to cancel the remaining tour dates to ensure she can focus on her health.
