Former Patriots Super Bowl Champion Jordan Devey Dies at 38

Former NFL offensive lineman Jordan Devey, a member of the New England Patriots' Super Bowl XLIX championship team, has died at the age of 38, his family confirmed.

In a GoFundMe campaign created by relatives, the family said Devey died by suicide and remembered him as a man whose life was defined by compassion, faith and a commitment to helping others.

"His unwavering dedication to serving others extended far beyond sports," the family wrote. "He faithfully served in his church, offering support, counsel and friendship to anyone in need. He was deeply loved by the players who saw him as a mentor, role model and friend."

Before pursuing a professional football career, Devey served a two-year mission in Costa Rica with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, according to the Deseret News. Although he did not play football in high school, he developed into a standout offensive lineman at Snow College in Utah before transferring to the University of Memphis, where he continued his collegiate career.

Devey entered the NFL in 2013 as an undrafted free agent with the Baltimore Ravens before joining the New England Patriots' practice squad later that year. He earned a place on the active roster in 2014 and was part of the Patriots team that defeated the Seattle Seahawks to win Super Bowl XLIX in February 2015.

Later that year, Devey was traded to the San Francisco 49ers. During his eight-year NFL career, he also spent time with the Kansas City Chiefs, Las Vegas Raiders and Buffalo Bills before retiring from professional football in 2021.

His wife, Linsey Devey, shared an emotional tribute on Instagram, noting that the couple was only days away from celebrating their 15th wedding anniversary.

"We have filled the walls of our homes and hearts with countless memories, joys, struggles and triumphs," she wrote. "You were our hero and our hearts ache in your absence. We love you. We miss you."

Following his retirement, Devey dedicated himself to mentoring young athletes as a football coach at Eagle High Schoolin Idaho, where he continued to make a lasting impact on the lives of students.

The school's football program honored his legacy in a heartfelt message, saying, "The fields won't feel the same without him, but his influence will never leave them. Every practice, every game and every lesson about teamwork, perseverance and doing things the right way carries a piece of what Jordan stood for. Rest easy, Coach."

Devey is survived by his wife and the couple's four children.
