Former NFL lineman Kevin Johnson, known for his time with the Philadelphia Eagles and Oakland Raiders, was tragically found dead at a homeless encampment in Los Angeles, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner. Johnson, who was 55 years old, succumbed to blunt head trauma and stab wounds, with the death officially ruled a homicide. Authorities believe Johnson had been residing at the encampment at the time of his death, a situation that friends say was linked to health challenges he faced later in life.

Johnson’s football career began when he was drafted in the fourth round by the New England Patriots in 1993. He later played for the Minnesota Vikings and Oakland Raiders before finding a home with the Philadelphia Eagles. During his time in Philadelphia, he recorded 43 tackles, seven sacks, and even returned a fumble for a touchdown in two seasons. He also played 15 games for the Raiders in 1997.

Beyond the NFL, Johnson extended his playing days in the Arena Football League, suiting up for teams in Orlando and Los Angeles. He was a Los Angeles native and played college football at Texas Southern University.

The news of his death shocked many in the football community, especially as details emerged of his struggles in recent years. Friends described how health issues had contributed to his difficult circumstances. Investigators are now working to uncover more details about the events leading to his death and are appealing for any witnesses to come forward. The loss of Johnson serves as a sobering reminder of the challenges that former athletes can face after their playing days are over.
