A 19-year-old woman who tragically died following a dog attack at a residential property has been identified as Jamie-Lea Biscoe.

Essex Police were called to an address on Long Hide, in the village of Leaden Roding near Dunmow, at approximately 10:45 p.m. on Friday. Upon arrival, officers discovered the young woman with severe injuries. Despite the efforts of emergency responders, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

A post-mortem examination is scheduled to take place on Sunday as authorities continue their investigation.

A 37-year-old man from Dunmow was arrested on suspicion of being responsible for a dangerously out-of-control dog that caused fatal injuries. He has since been released on bail while inquiries continue.

The dog, believed to be a family pet, has been seized by police. It is thought to be a Lurcher, although further tests are being conducted to confirm its exact breed.

Assistant Chief Constable Stuart Hooper expressed condolences, stating:
“Our thoughts remain with everyone who knew and loved Jamie-Lea. Her life has been tragically cut short. Our detectives are working tirelessly to establish the full circumstances of what happened, while specialist officers continue to support her family during this incredibly difficult time.”

He also urged the public to respect the family’s privacy and grief.

Police remain at the scene and are appealing for anyone with information — including CCTV, dashcam footage, or other evidence — to come forward. Authorities have asked that any information be shared quoting incident number 1419 of April 10.

In response to the tragedy, St Michael and All Angels Church in the village announced it would hold a moment of prayer and light candles in her memory on Sunday afternoon.
