Ferran Torres etched his name into Spanish football history by scoring the goal that secured Spain's 1-0 victory over Argentina in the FIFA World Cup final. Following the historic triumph, the forward was named Player of the Match and shared the credit with the entire nation.

An emotional Torres said the winning goal belonged to every Spaniard who supported the team throughout the tournament.

"That goal wasn't mine, nor was it just for the 26 players in this squad. It belongs to every person in Spain. Today, 47 million people are celebrating this victory with us."

The Spanish star also said he believed destiny had prepared this moment for his team.

"We felt this was our day. Even though we were playing far from home, we tried to make every Spanish fan feel as close to us as possible."

Torres acknowledged the challenge of facing a team led by Lionel Messi, but emphasized that Spain stayed true to its style of play.

"Every final is difficult, especially when you're facing a player like Messi. There's always some nervousness, but we trusted our football and once again showed our identity on the pitch."

Messi Falls Short of Another World Cup Triumph

The defeat also marked the end of several major milestones Lionel Messi had hoped to achieve.

The Argentine captain failed to score in the final, finishing the tournament with eight goals, two behind Kylian Mbappé, who claimed the Golden Boot after scoring 10 goals.

Messi also remained one goal short of surpassing Mbappé on the all-time FIFA World Cup scoring list, ending his career with 21 World Cup goals, compared to Mbappé's 22.

Argentina also missed the opportunity to defend its world title and add a fourth star to its jersey.

Despite the disappointment, Messi still made history by appearing in his 33rd FIFA World Cup match, surpassing German legend Lothar Matthäus for the most appearances in tournament history.
