Emma Chamberlain is no stranger to the Met Gala. In 2026, she marked her sixth appearance at the iconic event, once again stepping into her role as Vogue’s red carpet correspondent — this time with a renewed sense of focus and intention.

“I’m approaching it more seriously than ever,” she shared ahead of the event. Instead of attending the usual lineup of pre-Gala parties, Chamberlain chose to prioritize rest and calm, preparing herself for a night of interviewing some of the world’s biggest stars while also showcasing one of her most personal looks to date.

A Look Rooted in Art

For the 2026 Met Gala, Chamberlain wore a custom design by Mugler, created by designer Miguel Castro Freitas. The collaboration began after Chamberlain and her stylist, Jared Ellner, met Freitas during Paris Fashion Week, quickly forming a creative connection that carried into the Gala.

With the dress code centered on “Fashion Is Art,” the concept aligned perfectly with Chamberlain’s personal philosophy. Drawing inspiration from her upbringing in a creative household — where her father worked as a painter — she envisioned a look that felt like a living piece of art.

The gown blended soft watercolor tones with a slightly darker, more mysterious edge, reflecting both nostalgia and her artistic taste. “There’s a delicate, painterly quality, but also something a little eerie in how it moves,” she explained.

From Concept to Creation

To bring the vision to life, Chamberlain and Ellner shared artistic references — including works by Vincent van Gogh and Edvard Munch — with the Mugler team. The result was a striking design hand-painted by artist Anna Deller-Yee, transforming the gown into a true canvas.

The intricate process required around 40 hours of painting using 30 base colors, followed by several days of drying. The finished piece was both visually captivating and deeply personal.

Styling the Moment

To complete the look, Chamberlain wore custom-dyed navy satin platform heels by Stuart Weitzman. Her beauty look was designed to complement — not compete with — the gown.

Makeup artist Lilly Keys drew inspiration directly from the dress, incorporating soft mauve, purple, and iridescent tones around the eyes while keeping the lips neutral. The goal was to create a luminous, almost otherworldly effect, allowing Chamberlain’s skin to catch and reflect light as she moved.
