“Dustin Johnson blames high-profile split for the end of his worst season in a decade.”

Dustin Johnson’s difficult 2025 season has officially come to an end — and it appears his high-profile split affected him more than many realized.
For a player known for winning consistently, this year was a painful setback.
Johnson, now 41, has accumulated 31 professional victories over 18 years, including 22 PGA Tour titles, six World Golf Championships, three LIV Golf wins, plus a Masters and a U.S. Open.
But a closing round of 74 in Riyadh on Thursday — which caused him to miss the cut at the PIF Saudi International, an event he previously won twice when it was part of the DP World Tour — marked the conclusion of his 2025 campaign. It also confirmed his first winless season since 2014.
His top finish this year came at the LIV finale in Indianapolis, where a third-place showing boosted him to 14th in the overall standings. Still, he also posted last-place results at stops in Hong Kong and the U.K., underscoring the inconsistency that defined his season.
Speaking to Flushing It after his round, Johnson described 2025 as a “roller coaster,” and pointed directly to one major factor: his highly publicized equipment split with TaylorMade.
Johnson parted ways with the company in February, ending a partnership that began when he turned professional in 2007. Since then, he has switched to using a Titleist GT2 driver.
“I’ve really struggled with the driver — which is usually the strongest part of my game,” he said. “When that’s not working, it puts pressure on everything else.”
“When I’m driving it well, I can contend. But overall, I’ve had a hard time finding a driver that feels right. Some days I hit it great, but it doesn’t sync with the rest of my game. I’m either striking irons beautifully and not driving well, or the opposite. I just need that perfect balance — that’s when I play my best.”
Despite the frustrations, Johnson remains optimistic.
“I feel like my game is headed in the right direction,” he added. “I feel good going into 2026.”
